The Secret to Merging Online Virtual Worlds and Second Lives.
Online virtual worlds exist far more than we actually know. It is estimated that 1 million people will have a virtual life by the year 2018. By this I mean a seconde life. Another presence in a virtual world.
Let me ask you to imagine for a moment that one of your clients leads a double life. In one life they have a job, have a good social life and are married with 2 children. Any spare time that they get, early morning, late into the evening and often whilst at work they enter an entirely different and separate life. Another name, a different lifestyle, new friends and family, they even create what they look like. They may even change gender, hair style, vital statistics. A completely new identity.
Now imagine this client wants to explore and to make sense of both these persona’s and worlds.
Apparently as therapists we can expect to work with virtual and actual lives much sooner than we anticipate.
