The Miracle New Depression Cure: Deep Brain stimulation has been hailed as a new miracle cure for severe depression.
Doctors @ University Clinics of Bonn and Cologne have been researching the effects deep brain stimulation on both men and women who have suffered
From very severe depression for several years. A severity that could not be helped by controlled medication or any other therapy.
During the simulation the condition of the patients improved within a few days. Initial changes were even noticeable in a matter of minutes.
The improvments remained constant for as long as they were receiving the treatment. However, as soon as the pulse generator was turned off, the depression returned.
The results of the preliminary study have now been published in the renowned journal Neuropsychopharmacology (doi: 10.1038/ sj.npp.1301408).
The process of deep brain stimulation (DBS) Consists of selectively implanting electrodes in certain areas of the brain then these electrodes are stimulated using an electric pulse generator.
This process has mainly been used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
This process is currently being investigated as to whether it also helps with certain psychiatric diseases such as compulsive behavioral disorders.
