Respect denotes both a positive feeling of esteem for a person or other entity (such as a nation or a religion), and also specific actions and conduct representative of that esteem. Respect can be a specific feeling of regard for the actual qualities of the one respected (e.g., “I have great respect for her judgment”). It can also be conduct in accord with a specific ethic of respect. Rude conduct is usually considered to indicate a lack of respect, whereas actions that honor somebody or something indicate respect.

Source: Wikipedia

Giving respect to your parents even as an adult can be an issue. Even if you’re an adult still give them the respect that you would want your kids or future kids to want to give you. Respecting your parents is important even if they weren’t the best parents to you. They brought you in the world and the least that you can do is respect them. Familiarity can sometimes make it hard to honor your parents, but it’s a valued behavior to honor and respect your parents.

3 Tips to give respect to your parents;

1. Make dinner for you parents once in a while. They will appreciate the effort you put into making them a meal and it will lessen the work load on them.
2. Even if your parents weren’t there for you, reach out to them and communicate. It shows that you’re on a different maturity level and that you won’t let that hinder you from respecting your parents.
3. Helping them with things that they’re not as fit to do if they’re elderly. Parents are usually big blessings they take of you and you should take of them in return and show your love for them.

What exactly does privacy mean?

‘The term “privacy” means many things in different contexts. Different people, cultures, and nations have a wide variety of expectations about how much privacy a person is entitled to or what constitutes an invasion of privacy.

Internet privacy is the ability to control what information one reveals about oneself over the Internet, and to control who can access that information. These concerns include whether email can be stored or read by third parties without consent, or whether third parties can track the web sites someone has visited.‘

Learn how 20 years of the web has reshaped our lives.

‘Every day in Britain millions of searches are carried out on Google for free. Every month we spend millions of hours on Facebook for free and read millions of articles from free newspapers.

But now look at it the other way round.

Every day Google gathers millions of search terms that help them refine their search system and give them a direct marketing bonanza that they keep for months.

Every week Facebook receives millions of highly personal status updates that are kept forever and are forming the basis of direct advertising revenue.

Every month free newspapers plant and track a cookie tracking device on your computer that tells them what your range of interests are and allows them to shape their adverts and in the future, even content around you.

So you’re not just being watched, you’re being traded. The currency has changed.’

Would you give consent to trade your privacy for free access to web sites and services?

Does it concern you that your personal space is being eroded by companies who are building databases of your online habits and preferences?

Vincent van Gogh, whose artistic brilliance and supposed madness have made him a focus of popular fascination, apparently he suffered not from epilepsy or insanity but from Meniere’s disease.

According to an an article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that the 19th Century Dutch painter suffered from Meniere’s disease, a condition that was little known at the time and has often been misdiagnosed as epilepsy.

Today, Meniere’s disease affects about 2 out of every 1,000 people. There are approximately a half million sufferers in the US. About 75% of those affected have it in one ear while 25% have it in both. It generally strikes people in their 40s and 50s although some cases have been found in people in their 20s. No cases in children have ever been reported.

A Matter of Balance
Balance disorders fall under several broad categories including;

Peripheral vestibular disorder;
Central vestibular disorder;
Systemic disorder;
Vascular disorder.

Peripheral disorders are disturbances in the labyrinth, or inner ear.

Central disorders are problems in the brain or connecting nerves. This can include a rare tumor called acoustic neuroma.

Systemic disorders are problems of the body other than the brain or head.

Vascular disorders are related to blood flow problems.

The labyrinth, which is an organ in the inner ear and is a key player in the vestibular or balance system. Inside the labyrinth are three semicircular canals which are filled with fluid. As the head moves, the fluid inside the semicircular canals signals to the brain its relative motion.

Each semicircular canal has a bulged end that contains hair cells. Rotation of the head causes the fluid to flow, which in turn causes displacement of the top portion of the hair cells. The endolymphatic sac is a fluid reservoir that keeps the fluids in a constant volume in the semicircular canals.

Treatment may consist of medication to improve inner ear circulation such as blood pressure pills, which are vasodilators. Diuretics with anti-dizziness medication are also used to reduce pressure build-up.

Special diets low in sodium and potassium are frequently recommended. Salt plays a damaging role in reducing circulation in the inner ear and can aggravate both Meniere’s and tinnitus.

Patients are also advised to discontinue use of caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.

The nurse told police she didn’t know she was infected with hepatitis C when she stole painkillers meant for patients and replaced the medication with saline in dirty syringes.

If convicted, she faces 34 years in prison but could get life behind bars if prosecutors prove she caused serious bodily injury or death to a patient.

The social networking site (which will remain anonymous) caused a stir this week after its members voted to get rid of at least 5,000 users from its site for not being beautiful.

The dating site, which describes itself as an “exclusively beautiful community,” ousted the users for gaining weight over the holidays.

Potential members are only allowed entrance into the community after a 48-hour period where current members vote on the applicant’s beauty.

Greg Hodge, managing director said in a statement. “We responded to complaints by moving the newly chubby members back to the rating stage. This is the same as having them re-apply,”

Maintaining our standards is what the site is about, Hodge said, and that’s why people are expelled.

Kassinove & Tafrate (2002) developed the anger episode model after conducting research that observed individuals responding to anger in real-life situations. The model has five main components, each interlinked with the next

Defining the Components of the Anger Episode Model

Triggers are external or internal events, words, thoughts or experiences that elicit an anger response.

Appraisals are the way in which a trigger is interpreted. A simple teasing statement, meant in jest, for example, may be interpreted by one person as a light-hearted way of building a bond, another may interpret the same remark as an attack on their character.

When an individual appraises a negative event as unexpected, preventable and intentional – anger is the likely result.

Experiences refer to the client’s internal awareness of anger.

Expressive patterns relate to the way in which an individual’s private, internal experience of anger is conveyed – common patterns include outward expression, anger-in or indirect anger expression.

o Outward expression includes instances of direct verbal expression (“You’re a jerk”), overt motor behaviours (pushing, shoving) or other forms of aggression (violence, torture).

o Anger-in occurs when a client consciously chooses not to express their anger. In these instances suppressed anger may eventually dissipate or alternatively the anger may be expressed at another time.

o Indirect anger expressions are instances of passive aggression or covert sabotage. Passive resistance to work demands, not carrying one’s weight in a team, intentionally ignoring requests, purposely failing to act in a timely manner and engaging in gossip can all be expressions of anger and as such should not be ignored by the counsellor.

Carl Jung and his Iceberg Psychology Theory.

Carl Jung was a student and follower of Freud. He was born in a small town in Switzerland in 1875 and all his life was fascinated by folk tales, myths and religious stories. Although he had a close friendship with Freud early in their relationship, his independent and questioning mind soon caused a break.

Jung did not accept Freud’s contention that the primary motivation behind behavior was sexual urges. Instead of Freud’s instinctual drives of sex and aggression, Jung believed that people are motivated by a more general psychological energy that pushes them to achieve psychological growth, self-realization., psychic wholeness and harmony.

Like Freud, Jung posited the existence of a conscious and an unconscious mind. A model that psychologists frequently use here is an iceberg. The part of the iceberg that is above the surface of the water is seen as the conscious mind. Consciousness is the part of the mind we know directly. It is where we think, feel, sense and intuit. It is through conscious activity that the person becomes an individual. It’s the part of the mind that we “live in” most of the time, and contains information that is in our immediate awareness. Below the level of the conscious mind, and the bulk of the ice berg, is what Freud would call the unconscious, and what Jung would call the “personal unconscious.” Here we will find thoughts, feelings, urges and other information that is difficult to bring to consciousness. Experiences that do not reach consciousness, experiences that are not congruent with who we think we are, and things that have become “repressed” would make up the material at this level.¬

Carl Jung had serious differences with Freud’s theory of drives. Carl Jung emphasized the transmission of mythic themes, i.e. a collective unconscious, which is consistent with Freud’s discussion of primitive universal fantasies. … Using an iceberg metaphor,The unconscious is understood to be the large part of the mind, which is hidden from view. The pre-conscious is represented by the waterline – but it is the zone in which there are fleeting glimpses of the …

The article does not mention Carl G. Jung’s Active Imagination, a meditationform which begins with the idea that our Higher Selves, or Souls, are leading us to integration and healing of the personality, as part of the inner movement to higher … I think of The Secret as the tip of an iceberg. There is much there of value, and much of it has resonated through mystic, philosophic and religious thought for all time. The transmission idea, for example, harmonizes with the …

Have you ever been referred to as Sensitive and Touchy? A Sensitive person or even highly sensitive?

Have you ever had a conversation with someone about something or other and you suddenly became offended at what they said to you?

Are you reliant on others opinions as to how you feel about your self?

Seeking out external approval?

When people tell you you’re wrong, do you agree you are wrong? Or maybe you agree to disagree?

When people poke fun at you, do you poke fun at yourself too?

Would you describe your self as Over-sensitive?

Is over-sensitivity hereditary, something in our genes?

Or is over-sensitivity a protection mechanism. Rather like your computer firing up an anti-virus message not just for real threats, but for every email that comes through.

When you find that something sensitive has been breached, you can choose to peel that layer away and find out why you felt so hurt and offended.
Explore your inner values and beliefs about your self.

It reminds me of the time when a friend of mine, told me that someone we mutually knew had indeed called me names behind my back. They claimed I was condescending and ostentatious.
Now, I could’ve chosen to feel extremely hurt by this comment, feeling judged and put down by one persons opinion, spending hours even days analyzing how they could perceive me that way?
Did others feel the same way about me?
How can I make them change their mind and start to like me?

Well… when someone makes a judgment about me like that, it probably means they don’t really know me at all. Yet simultaneously, I recognized that that was their perception and that they were entitled to it, (opinions are like A***holes and every one has got one).
Rather than being upset, I kept an open mind and gave them the chance to get to know me better (or not).
