Blogging For Therapists

There are many problems associated to using a free hosted Wordpress blog for your Therapist blog.

The main problem is that you do not own your blog and as such it could be deleted by Wordpress at any time, should they wish to do so.

I am not being derogatory towards Wordpress, just stating the facts as detailed in their terms of service. Their view is probably………. it’s not costing you anything so we call the shots. That said, the Wordpress software is really really good when used on your own servers/ hosting and I would not consider anything else for my blogs.

Imagine if you had invested hours, days and weeks of your time creating a blog and followers only to have it disappear overnight.

To avoid this pitfall you might want to consider creating your own hosted blog.

Get Your Own Domain

First off you will need to register a domain name of your choice.  One of the companies that I have used who we have found to be really reliable is Namecheap.

Hosting Your Domain

Next you need to get a hosting account. This is the place where your blog will live. A couple of the companies that we have used are IX Webhosting and Interstellardata and they have proved over time to be really reliable and great technical support.

If you are not very technical then you may wish to find a hosting company that has a program called Fantastico as part of their package. The benefits of Fantastico are that using this service makes installing Wordpress quite easy.

Once done you will be able to assign your new domain to be hosted by your chosen hosting company. You would then use Fantastico to install Wordpress and you would be all set.

You can then log into your Wordpress blog and start blogging.

In the video I said I would list some of the major plugins that will really help with your blogging. They are as follows:-

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the blog. Wish that I had seen it about 6 months ago when I was setting up my own. Would have saved me a bunch of searching around.

Keep ‘em coming.

Also have to say that I am very impressed with your efforts. I am registered with so many “services” that I can’t remember them all right now. They range from Merchant Circle to Liquic and beyond. You are blowing them all away.
